Same thing here. No error codes just stopped reading disks after 2 weeks of black ops.
My 120 gig slim is only 8 months old and still under warranty. No problems until COD!
MW2 did the same thing to my 60gig in March. No problems until COD! $120 + shipping to fix it or $300 for a new system. I bought the new system.
Is this a coincidence? Not likely! Sony knows about the issues. They just don't care! Why admit there is a problem when so many people are willing to buy a new system?$$$$$$$$$$$$$
As for help. I don't know what to tell you. Call Sony. Call the Press. Start a blog. Get on Facebook. Find someone to fix it for cheep. Boycott Sony. Boycott Treyarch. Buy an Xbox. I don't know, but you're not alone.
I FEEL YOUR PAIN!

I had the same problem a couple of years ago with Tomb Raider, game froze when playign and drive would no longer read any disc... I was lucky my was cover under warrenty at the time i called sony and they sent me a exchange unit the next business day, admitly the exchange unit is a re-condisioned one however to this day works perfectly well, I have black ops and so far so good (touch wood).
Im sure this is still a service they offer either under warenty for for a fixed fee, there is also continus play available for 5 quid a month and that covers next business day replacment for any reason including acciental damage, as long as you got your data backed up then there is no problem you do have to re-install all the games tho when you restore the back up on a different system it only re-stores save data.
I do agree tho guys when it brakes because of a game the next day replament should be free of charge come on sony dont keep letting the people who love and stick up for your're PS3 systems down, admitly tho every one i know who has an xbox finds mircrosoft service worse than sonys i actually know some one who's xbox broke when palying modern warefare and it took them 3 months 120 quid and he had to play for a delivery to germany!! hes now to scared to buy morden warefare 2 or black ops.
good luck

I have been on the phone with Sony the last 3 days is all they do is pass the blame to everyone else, you would think a big company like Sony would sort the problem not just ignore it and let there loyal customers pay for a problem that shouldn't have happened in the first place. Black ops or sony's update has caused this problem so it should be up to them to put it right, I have contacted trading standards aswell as watchdog I think everyone needs to go down this road and make aware that there is a problem.

Weren't Microsoft and Sony investigated by Watchdog a few years ago because many of the consoles were breaking down just after the 1yr Warranty ran out?
It looks like the problems that Activision is having with their servers is highlighting a fault that already exists with the PS3.
Basically poor programming and servers that can't cope is accelerating a known performance issue with the blue ray component.
I've started playing the game again, choosing locale (sic) servers , and the game hasn't froze for the past 2 days, I've also slowed down my menu choosing on the game, giving the ps3 time to access the disk and giving the servers a chance.
I think I may have been lucky that I didn't damage the machine when I was forced to power down using the off switch.
Whatever the problem is here, it needs to be investigated.
Still no advice from Sony about what to do when the PS3 freezes ?

*FASTANDLOUD* Totally agree with you there im doing the same its not on, dont let them win it was there fault so why should we pay for our ps3 to get fixed bang out of order!!!!

Played tonight , PS3 froze 3 times, each time it froze was when the server suffered a dissconection or shortly afterward.
For me it seems it's a server/software issue, the game sometimes doesn't reset to it's menu screen when there are server issues.
BTW, each time my PS3 froze I just pressed the disc eject button when the yellow light wasn't flashing, once the PS3 realised there was no disc, it just reset itself.

Just an update on my situation.
I got through to Playstation support and because it is now affecting other game discs, they are acknowledging the fault as 'corrupt data on my hard drive, which cannot be erased'. They did not specify what the 80010514 code was and stated that this was just a 'general code'. They would not clarify if this was a faulty Blue Ray Drive.
As I'm still just within warranty I will have a refurbished PS3 issued to me by Friday and have to send my old one back. This will extend my warranty for a further three months, but this will be a used PS3 of the same spec and age as mine, but what they deem as sub-standard or worn parts will be replaced by new (which I'm not keen with, given that this offers a wide spectrum for their interpretation of these terms, so infact I could end up with a worse kept PS3 than my own, despite it's obvious fault). So I'm just fingers crossed that the same does not happen again with this replacement.

I'm sitting here reading all your posts and not one person has posted information that may help someone else follow up this issue, like the telephone numbers for Actvision, Treyarch and Playstation etc etc.
I personally went on to Activisions & Treyarch site and the Contact/Support details are rubbish so numbers like the one's above and maybe the likes of Trading Standards and Watchdog would not only be helping others but also helping you all as the more that they are contacted the quicker they will realise they need to address this issue.
The way I see it is, they need to be made aware that this "Black Ops" issue lies with Playstation first and foremost as they sell you an expensive machine and then allow the likes of Treyarch/Activision to produce games that will play on the system. I think Playstation should be picking up all the tabs on repairs and then claiming Treyarch/Activision for the grief Playstation gamers have been caused and then rap some nuckles and insure they don't produce a game that will cause these kind of problems again, end of.
