PSN message spam "Hi there i am James Mclane"

i just this message over the PSN from one of my friends

"Hi there i am James Mclane and i work at sony PS3 developments. It is comin up to the PS3's 4th birthday and for sony and all PSN users to celebrate we are offering £40 on the PSN store for anyone who spreads the news to all of their friends (including the person that sent you this message). Once you do this an alert message will come up on screen and tell you a unique code that will give you this money on the store. You better act fast because this offer is only for this week so hurry up and get sendin"

With its poor grammar, spelling and capitalization (what official Sony message doesn't capitalize the "S"?) this is pretty obviously spam, but I'm not sure exactly whats going on. I would advise steering clear of this.

If it had been John Mclane sending you the spam I'd have been impressed given all his heriocs at the Nakatomi Plaza.

Just so you know, whilst spam is a pain in the backside, naming and shaming is against house rules :smileywink:

Give the reporting thing another go though, as it will all help cut back on the spam :smileyhappy:
