All this about keeping it clean is all fine and well, but that doesn't answer the question about speeds. I have fixed YLOD twice on mine, and last time it happened I knew it was coming because I felt the back and the fan was going really slow and didn't reach 2nd or 3rd levels or whatever dude earlier in the thread was saying.
I'm wondering how you test to know it's the physical fan, or there is some chip on the board bad? I just don't want to go Ebay another fan and it do the same thing my current one is doing.
See...this is the S*#& you get with consoles: IF they are broke, you have to do all you can for research and looking stuff up underground because Playstation isn't going to help you fix it. They make this crap brokea$$ so that you'll go pay 300 for a new one. ANyone ever notice how consoles get worse and worse as the system has been out for a while? Ps3 came out they were $500 bucks and my buddy's has been going strong for 6 years or whatever now. Mine is a 3rd generation 40gb (or 2nd gen, not sure). Has had 2 YLOD, and i REFUSE to buy a Slim. Point being, they start cutting corners every generation to make money or keep from spending it. THe first ones out of any system are worth paying for the demand and costs because they have more copper and metal in them. NOt plastic.They have to come down on costs due to the market, so if you bought a Slim...good luck. Those things are 2 months away from epic FAIL. YOu might as well put a mini fridge with beers right next to your Ps3, and set the Playstation in it while you game.
Regardless, I'm building my PC up and when BF3 comes out, I'll have no problem with fans...cause there'll be 10 in my case and not ONE. IF people would stop complaining about how "LARGE" the consoles are or how LOUD they are....TURN up your Surround sound to make the game better and quit griping. Cooling is the best way your electronics don't go....PLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!! Too many newbs out there.

IF playstation were smart, they should sell an optics drive and cd with the PS operating system, and controllers. I could hook them up to my PC. THen playstation makes more money with little overhead. Charge 180 to 250 for basically something that cost them about 50 bucks in material to make.
