This shows to the OP that it's not the PS3 or PSN at fault or we would all be capped at low speeds lol. Maybe setting his network up from the beginning could help. He might have some conflicts? Who knows.

I'd agree with you if it wasn't for the fact they have the worst traffic management policy known to man.

Traffic management doesn't affect me at the moment.

Maybe once it does my opinion of them will change.

My ps3 connected via a home plug got 13 mb with virgin 50 meg. A pc connected to the same hub gets 50 on the speed tests.

i get full speed on the ps3 and the pc.

I have the latest version of the hub (there are 2 versions and one doesn't support more than 50mb).

There is no limit on the psn, these people don't know what they are talking about (ignore them, useless).

Just double check which hub you have, ask virgin to send you a new one.

Try and go wired if you can - it's just better and more stable all round.

Wireless is cool etc, but there are many interference factors.

I know exactly what I'm talking about - and Virgin traffic shape their ports.
