How Can You Make Your PS3 Faster

[ Edited ]
16 Replies 1,141 Views edited 15-03-2011

my playstation is so slow installing games with a speed of broadband of 7 megabytes with orange broadband was wondering if the ps3 could be made faster or have to change internet service provider

each ps3 game takes and hour and a half to install so really thinking of changing broadband the maximum broadband speed in my area is 7 or 8 megabyte which is slow

I have orange broadband and tbh it's not the best for console gaming - the Mass Effect 2 cerberus pack took me 4 and a half hours to download, not really what you want when you're eager to play your new game! Don't really have a problem with my computer, internet browing is just fine and I don't download from there, so personally I don't feel it's worth the hassle of changing it. If it's something you're thinking of though, Sky or BT are supposedly the best providers in terms of gaming functionality.

unless u go for fibre optic all isps will be very similar. very much depends on contention ratio which you won't know until you sign up. could try canvassing all yr neighbours, see who they're wilth and choose a different one

If you really have an 7-8Mbit connection your download speeds would be just fine.

Further down, you report that you are getting disconnected often.

This is the issue you should be looking to resolve. I wont go into detail becuase I could be here all day and you wouldnt learn.

Your starting point should be:-

1. Your MASTER SOCKET (assuming we are talking ADSL)

2. Your ADSL Filter (There are VERY good ones available for approx £10 delivered)

3. Your RJ11 cable (between the filter and modem - Shielded ones are worth the investment)

4a. Your CAT5 cable (between your modem and your hardware - if wired - Shielded or CAT6 is worth the investment)

or

4b. Your wireless connection (between your modem and your hardware - if wireless - is the signal good/strong? - if not run wired via direct link or powerline 200)

That should get you started.... google is your friend.

If ur using a wireless connection you are better off using a wired connection if at all possible. I switched from wired to wireless and even though I'm on a 20mb service the PS3 download speeds and media streaming was absolutely awful. I went back to using a wired connection and my download/streaming speed sprang back up to what it should b.

Wait you think 7 - 8 mb is slow? D:

Try having broadband that ranges from .9 - 1.2mb. (1.4 on a very lucky day)

I'd happily swap
